BRISTOL MEETING?

Hello,I am newly accepted as an SLA and need to attend meetings and hopefully get a sponsor.  I live in Bristol, but would travel a little if I had to.  I am just starting on the on-line meeting route, but would really like to go to local meetings too.  Is there anyone else out there wanting a bristol or bath meeting?

I have a hall in St George

I have a hall in St George which we could have for £6, on Thursday evenings from 5.00 till 6.40pm, or on Sunday evenings from 7 till 9.  I still plan to go along anyway as I want to devote some more regular time to growing my recovery by reading the texts and having some regular on-line meeting time, and if anyone else wants to join we can make it an official meeting and go from there.  In withdrawal and in hope of meeting you,    Richard

Welcome to Bristol. There are a few people down here currently discussing starting a new SLAA meeting in Bristol.  Keep you updated.

I've just added another post.  As I don't know how the site works, I didn't know whether to reply directly.  It would be good to hear from anyone else interested in meeting too.

Hi Welcome, and well done

Hi Welcome, and well done in getting started... There used to be several meetings around Bristol & Bath a few years ago but they eventually folded. Like the people at Nottingham, you can help create enough interest in a possible meeting and get it going yourselves. You only need one or two dedicated people to help you along. When you have at least one other person, find a venue any way you can - could be a church hall, library room, Rehab Centre, Friends Meeting House are useful, even a room above a pub - somewhere that you think even 2 of you can afford - you might even get a room for free. Then publish the details on this site and let the information line people know where and when. You can download starter kits for the format from this site, and you can get 2 free Basic Texts from the Literature Office to help get you started. Just use the Contact Us details at the top of this page. Meanwhile keep your own recovery as stable as you can. The success of a new meeting often depends on the sobriety of its pioneering members.Let us know how you get on

Thank you very much for your reply.  It feels nerve-wracking to have to start a meeting, and be a pioneering member, but I suppose not essentially any different from pioneering myself into new territory.  I think I know somewhere I could rent very cheaply for an hour or two, and even if I went to sit on my own at first, and read from the texts (bought some off amazon today, but will look into the Lit office too, thanks) that might be a start.  You are the first person apart from my counsellor that I have made contact with about this.  Thank you again for reply and pointers.

Hello. My name is jinkin and i have just joined. i also am from Bristol and have just decidied get some psychotherapy and also look into this. it has been a monkey on my back for some time now longer than i realised looking back. but hey its a start!

I hope you can come to the

I hope you can come to the meeting in St George if we can get it going.  I have no idea how it would be, but I know it's a good idea to talk to other people and share support.  Like you, I'm also realizing how this has been an unhappy thread through my life, and the few tiny recent moments when I've asked and been allowed to feel free of the obsession/monkey/depression have been wonderful.  A different kind of satisfaction, a kind of awareness of  self-acceptance, or of what I really need and can let myself have,  in any given moment.  Just a beginning for me, and still a daily difficulty, with I suspect many more difficulties to come.  I'm finding Alan Carr's Easyway to stop smoking quite useful for the way he relentlessly focusses on a vision of a happy ex smoker rather than anything else.  Good luck on your journey.
